Infant Massage: The Power of Human Touch – ArticleOne of the very many lovely things I do in my job as a midwife, and have the privilege and pleasure of, is to hold newborn babies – the joy has never waned for one minute! I do not think there is anything as soft, precious or beautiful as newborn skin – like the perfect mixture of the softest velvet and rose petals. She shares some of her knowledge about the varied ways in which the queer community can grow their families. Avril is a passionate advocate for inclusivity and inclusion and feels that change is possible through better understanding and education, particularly of student midwives.

Changes in the management of iron in pregnancy – ArticleThere is now a growing body of evidence which suggests that proactively preventing the progression from low iron to treating iron deficiency in pregnancy with scientifically modern supplements might offer the best course of action, rather than traditional oral iron supplements or treating with high-dose iron medicines later. Despite the huge importance of iron for human health, it is the most common nutritional deficiency in the world (World Health Organization, 2008). For many years, this has been a neglected area of study or improvement (Auerbach and Georgieff, 2020).

For the 11th year running, this day internationally aims to raise awareness of the difficulties and challenges that this particularly vulnerable group of babies, and their families, face. Premature means that the baby makes an early entrance into the world before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy.
